Homeless Contribution Tax Credit
Covered Colorado is currently participating in the Colorado Homeless Contribution Income Tax Credit (HCTC) program. That means a cash donation of $100 or more may qualify you for a 25% state tax credit.
What is the Homelessness Contribution Tax Credit (HCTC)?
When you give to a certified nonprofit like ours that supports people experiencing homelessness, you may qualify for the Colorado Homeless Contribution Tax Credit. That means you can get up to 25% of your donation back as a state income tax credit—not just a deduction, but a direct reduction of what you owe on your Colorado taxes.
What qualifies as a monetary contribution or value of in-kind contributions?
A monetary donation must be $100 or more to qualify for a tax credit. An in-kind donation must be valued over $5,000 to qualify. The total value of tax credits allowed per taxpayer per year may not exceed $100,000.
Note: Per Colorado guidelines, gifts made from a donor advised fund are currently ineligible for the tax credit.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Make a qualifying gift.
2. Tell us you want the tax credit. If donating through our website, check or other means, please email Devon Lenderink, Development Director at devon@coveredcolorado.org regarding your donation.
3. You will be sent an email about how you can submit your donation through the Homeless Contribution Tax Credit Donor Salesforce Portal.
4. Tax credit certificates for qualifying donations are emailed or mailed on an annual basis between February 1st-15th.
