A Survivor’s Story: What Became Possible (Part 2)
Six months at Covered gave me a life I had never had. Since returning home in January of 2026 I got my kids back and built them a home that is stable and happy. That's what I'm proudest of and everything else sits on top of it. I completed my Peer Wellness Specialist certification. I joined a national survivor network and I attend national conferences on how the justice system responds to sexual assault. I'm enrolled in Elevate Academy. I took a seat on the Survivor Voices Advisory Committee at the Family Peace Center of Washington County, where I'm in the room when decisions get made about how survivors in my county are treated. This summer I served as the designated law enforcement support person for another survivor and helped keep her case from being closed.
My long-term dream is to open a program like Covered in Oregon and I know what that program needs to look like because I lived inside one that got it right. Covered Colorado didn't just save my life. It gave me the kind of healing that made me want one. Getting to launch my public speaking career at their Lighting the Way Fall Benefit Dinner is an honor and I hope you'll be there.
