Development Director

Position Overview

The Development Director is the primary staff member overseeing Covered Colorado’s fundraising and donor development. This role works closely with the Executive Director and other executive staff to raise funds and build strong relationships with corporations, churches, foundations, and individual donors. In addition to managing campaigns and donor systems, the Development Director will serve as a visible representative of Covered Colorado in the community. This includes networking, outreach, and cultivating new connections to increase awareness and financial support. The Development Director will also oversee teams of volunteers to help carry out development efforts.

 

Donor Development

  • Work with the Executive Director to create and implement development strategy.

  • Attend networking events, business association meetings, faith community gatherings, and local forums to represent Covered Colorado.

  • Proactively seek speaking engagements and outreach opportunities in churches, businesses, civic clubs, and community groups.

  • Build new donor relationships with individuals, churches, corporations, and foundations.

  • Maintain strong relationships with current donors through consistent engagement and appreciation.

  • Give presentations at community events to educate and spread awareness.

  • Host and lead tours at the Care and Education Center to cultivate relationships.

  • Act as a spokesperson for Covered Colorado in the community, building visibility and credibility.

  • Facilitate donor engagement plan and donor appreciation for the year.

  • Maintain spreadsheets and database on donors, fundraising, grants, expenses, and events.

 

Fundraising

  • Help Covered to set and reach fundraising goals set each year

  • Launch and oversee 3-4 fundraising campaigns each year

  • Launch and oversee End of Year fundraising campaign each year

  • Work with event team in coordinating annual fundraising events

  • Be present at Covered fundraising events and open house

  • Research grant opportunities and complete applications

  • Work with grant writer on seeking and writing grants

 

Volunteer & Staff Collaboration

  • Assist volunteer coordinator in maintaining volunteer information and needs

  • Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers for events, office assistance, ambassadors, and group work days

  • Work with Executive Director and Strategic Initiatives Director on donor pipeline

  • Work with Development Assistant on database, donors, and fundraising goals

  • Work with Marketing staff on print materials, campaigns, events, and social media

 

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience (volunteer or paid) in non-profit development

  • In agreement with Covered’s Values, Mission, and Vision

  • Humble, credible, trustworthy, teachable and a self-starter

  • Effective and creative communicator with strong social and verbal skills

  • Good computer skills such as Microsoft & Google platforms (Word, Excel, Google Drive, database, etc.) is preferrable

  • Organized and able to oversee multiple projects and events

  • Conditional offer of employment is contingent upon the following:

Time Requirements

 This position will be completed in 40 hours per week. This position will occasionally include evening and weekend hours.  Position may work some remote hours but must also be available to schedule face-to-face meetings with donors, corporations, and churches unless scheduled over zoom.

 Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment as well as remote and uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, desktop computers and telephones.
